Infostructures: Spatial Typologies for an Emerging Information Economy
By Ali Fard
Infostructures proposes new spatial typologies for the emerging information economy of Sub-Saharan Africa. After analyzing the current network of information, a set of networked spatial constructs is introduced at the intersection of public space and information access. These new typologies present a new breed of public spaces to address the formal and informal possibilities of insertion of high technology within the unique urban context of African cities. By incorporating the requirements of access to information, such as electricity, education and maintenance spaces, a new spatial economy emerges which is as much a product of the local condition as it is the product of the technology.
