Swamp Thing Overview
SWAMP THING
By Alex Chew and Max Kuo and Danielle Wagner
Situated in San Francisco Bay, Swamp Thing is a peri-structural response to rising tides, where responsiveness and hybridity attach to existing maritime, urban, and terra ecologies. We envision a time-released network of artificial islands that will grow over decades leeching into our consciousness and watershed. These tethered buoys will facilitate the emergence of natural systems along the edges where ecologies sit on the verge of collapse. The simplicity of the unit is its maritime universality and site-specific programming in proper urban and bionomic contexts. This system’s result is a hybrid peri-structure that absorbs storm surges, builds communities, and grows heterogeneity.
